Summer is ideal to grow artistically at LCC

Put a little class in your life this summer by enrolling in a culturally enriching music or dance class at Laredo Community College.

Registration for the second summer session at LCC is now in progress.

Summer 2 classes are from July 6 to Aug. 9.

In the area of dance, beginning and experienced dancers can learn the curious intricacies of modern dance or explore through movement the classic teachings of Spanish flamenco.

Four levels of the Modern Dance class will be offered, meeting Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Spanish Ballet II offers an opportunity for student dancers to expand their skills in the art of flamenco dancing.  LCC offered the first level of this course during the Summer 1 term.  The class is led by Alicia McKinnis, a seasoned dancer and a longtime instructor.

For those who prefer to play a musical instrument, consider enrolling in an applied music instruction course.

The two-semester hour credit courses are for music majors or for those who want to learn how to play an instrument.

Applied instruction is available in flute, drums and piano during the second summer session.

Students spend two 30-minute sessions with the instructor and practice at least 10 hours per week.  The final examination consists of a performance before a jury of instructors to determine if the student is ready for the next level of applied music.

The applied music instruction will be taught by Matthew Adams (drums), Mikolaj Gorecki (piano) and Melissa Hinojosa (flute).

For more information, call the LCC Music and Dance Department at 721-5330.

The performing arts classes are among the hundreds of courses available during the second summer term at LCC.

The college also will offer classes in accounting, art, biology, chemistry, computers, economics, electrical technology, English, emergency medical services, French, government, history, kinesiology, real estate, math, medical office, physics, psychology, reading, sociology, speech, welding and much more.

At LCC South, students can enroll for classes in criminal justice, English, fire protection technology, government, kinesiology, math, sociology and speech.

LCC’s Center for Distance Learning also is offering a wide selection of online courses, ranging from accounting to speech.

LCC is conducting registration for summer session 2 classes through June 28 via its On Line Enrollment (OLÉ) system at http://ole.laredo.edu.

LCC classes are affordable with tuition only half that of state universities.
