New event streamlines LCC admissions process

Avoid the chaotic fall registration rush!

New students planning to enroll for the fall 2006 semester at Laredo Community College have an opportunity to get professional assistance on filling out their college forms in one visit.

Students are invited to attend the first LCC Forms Fest 2006 at either main or south campuses.  Admission is free of charge.

The event will be held at the main campus on Tuesday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 21 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Memorial Hall, rooms 205-206.

Forms Fest is scheduled at LCC South on Thursday, June 22 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the community suite of the Billy Hall Student Center.

Rick Moreno, dean of enrollment management, said that Forms Fest will allow students to meet one-on-one with college staff to complete the college’s new online admissions application and the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

“Laredo Community College is pleased to offer this event as an opportunity to make the admissions process a simple and streamlined experience for our new students,” Moreno said.

Students applying for admissions to LCC will need to provide several documents to the Admissions/Registration office, including:

                * official high school transcript or GED diploma, and an official transcript from any college/university previously attended, and

          * one of several possible documents to support claim of Texas residency, including a Texas driver’s license or Texas ID card with an expiration date of not more than four years, a Texas voter registration card that has not expired or pay stubs for the 12 months preceding the census date, among other possible documents.

       To complete the FAFSA at the event, students or parents are advised to bring with them:

           * the student's driver's license (if any)

           * Social Security card

           * W-2 forms and other records of money earned in 2005

           * 2005 U.S. income tax return (IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, OR 1040TEL)

         * records of untaxed income, such as welfare, social security, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), or veterans benefits

           * current bank statements

           * current mortgage information (excluding primary home) business and farm records, and

           * stocks, bonds, and other investment records.

While at Forms Fest, students will be able to enjoy music, food and drinks.  There also will be an opportunity to win exciting door prizes.
