Imagine the opportunity to get paid for attending classes.
High school students ages 16 to 21 can seize that opportunity, and get ahead in life, with Project Step-Up at Laredo Community College.
Enrollment is under way to join Project Step-Up’s four-week summer program, funded by the Texas Workforce Commission.
The program prepares participants for college, exposes them to rewarding career training to acquire skills for their future and it offers them a chance to earn a living. Lunch also is provided free of charge.
The four-week program will meet at the LCC main campus, Monday-Thursday, beginning July 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The program will consist of courses in computer networking, front-desk operations (hospitality), warehouse distribution management and substitute teaching.
The program also includes a hands-on learning experience by working in a college department and earning a stipend up to $400.
Project coordinator Elsa Gutierrez said that eligibility is determined by TWC based on family income. Interested students should visit the Texas Workforce Center at 2389 E. Saunders in Las Plazas.
For more information, call Gutierrez at 721-5466 or Gregory Haugabrook at 794-6500.
