Working together for the environment

The Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center at Laredo Community College has a new interactive attraction to showcase to students and visitors thanks to a special partnership led by the Laredo Under Seven Flags Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity and AmeriCorps.  Officials and volunteers from the three organizations were at the LBVESC Tuesday, June 20 to present a touch-table which will enhance the center’s mission to environmental science.  The Rotary Club donated the materials for the touch-table, which was built by Habitat and AmeriCorps volunteers.  On hand for the donation were, from left, kneeling, volunteers Louie Ochoa, Stephanie Macgill, and Hector Tinajero; standing, Tom Miller, LBVESC director; Deirdre Reyna, past president of the Laredo Under Seven Flags Rotary Club and LCC marketing and public information director; volunteer Syina Moreno; Viky Garcia of Habitat for Humanity and club member; Jo Anne Balzar, club president and LCC history instructor; and Bill Balzar, club treasurer.  For information on guided tours, call the LBVE Science Center at 764-5701.
