LCC graduates 16 nurses
The area healthcare industry received a boost this month when 16 students at Laredo Community College graduated from the two-year Associate Degree Nursing program.
A special pinning and graduation ceremony honored the students, who lit candles and recited the health professional covenant after receiving their nursing pins. The traditional ceremony was held on Thursday, May 11, in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater.
Master of ceremonies was Manuel Gonzalez, instructor. Oscar Eddie Brownlee was the student speaker.
During the ceremony, student achievement was recognized with the presentation of the Mary Alice Lopez Award to Rebecca Consuelo Muņoz and Maria Teresa Peņa, and the Merit Award to Cristen Jayne Rojas.
Graduates for the Associate Degree in Nursing are Oscar Eddie Brownlee, Nadia Mariza Castillo, Sarah E. Coutino, Jessica Delapass, Esmeraldo Silaras Guirigay, Julia Marie Martinez, Audrey Mendez, Ricardo Alejandro Mendiola, Rebeca Consuelo Muņoz, Danita M. Paz, Maria Teresa Peņa, Cristen Jayne Rojas, Rosa Alicia Torres, Oscar A. Villanueva, Vanesa Lorraine Villarreal and Luis A. Wico.
The Associate Degree Nursing Program at LCC is fully accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
The Associate Degree Nursing program at LCC prepares graduates for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Students implement the nursing process with client care in a structured health care setting.
The students participate in a hands-on clinical experience at the two local hospitals and at other sites throughout the community.
Applications for admission to the ADN program are available at the LCC ADN Office, located in Lopez Nursing Building, room 126. Admission is competitive and based on specific admission criteria.
