LCC to offer basketball, indoor soccer camps
There’s a cool place for youth from kindergarten to middle school ages to have fun and stay fit this summer at Laredo Community College.
The LCC Kinesiology Department is offering its annual Basketball Day Camp and Indoor Arena Soccer Camp in June in the air conditioned Maravillo Gymnasium.
Two sessions for each recreational activity are planned from June 5 to 15 and from June 19-29. Basketball campers meet Monday through Thursday from 1-4 p.m., while indoor arena soccer campers convene Monday through Thursday from 4:15 to 6:50 p.m.
Leading the camps is Dr. Sara Carrasco, chair of the Kinesiology Department and a longtime coach and physical education instructor.
During the basketball camp, Carrasco will be assisted by coaches Art Smith and Randy Gibbons.
In soccer, Carrasco will be joined by assistant camp director Jose Arreola and coaches Jose Ronces, Jose Arispe and Jose Alejandro Cavazos.
Both camps will feature personal instruction, challenging tournament action, daily league play and awards for all competition events.
“Our camps’ philosophy is to instill a love of the games, to improve the campers’ self image, to build friendships and to develop a healthy attitude about being competitive,” Carrasco said. “We do this through the guidance of our college, high school or middle school coaches who believe in our philosophy, love dealing with youngsters and live the game.”
The fee to attend soccer camp is $50, while the fee for basketball camp is $55. Parents should enroll their children soon as space for each camp session is limited. For more information or to enroll in the camps, call the LCC Kinesiology Department at 721-5858.
