Indoor soccer, baseball challenge at LCC
The heat is on this summer at Laredo Community College as the college seeks male and female teams to test their talents on the playing court.
The Kinesiology Department is hosting two-day tournaments in basketball and indoor soccer in the air conditioned Maravillo Gymnasium.
“The tournaments are a great opportunity for students to stay active and competitive during the summer months while they’re out from school,” Dr. Sara Carrasco, kinesiology department chair, said.
The challenge begins with a basketball tournament on June 2 and 3 for males ages 8 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 15 and 16 to 18.
The action continues for females on June 30 and July 1 for the same age groups as above.
A limit of eight teams per age group is sought. Each team may consist of 10 players. The team fee is $65. Trophies will be awarded to the winners.
For fans of soccer, LCC will offer a coed indoor soccer tournament for a challenging time in a climate-controlled environment.
The first tournament is June 9 and 10, while the second tournament is June 23 and 24. Both tournaments are open to males and females, ages 10 to 13 and 14 to 18.
Only nine teams will be accepted per age group. Each team may consist of 10 players.
The team fee for ages 10 to 13 is $50, while the team fee for ages 14 to 18 is $60.
