Noted vocalist to offer master class at LCC

 

Acclaimed vocalist and award-winning educator Dr. Arikka Gregory will offer a master class for college and high school students on Monday, Nov. 6 at Laredo Community College.

The mezzo-soprano, who is currently an assistant professor of voice and director of opera at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, will offer the master class at 1 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center, room 102.

Gregory will be accompanied by LCC music instructor Dr. Mikolaj Gorecki on piano.  Students from LCC and the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts will perform.

Gregory has appeared with numerous opera companies, including the Procantus Lyric Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, and the Chautauqua Opera.

She most recently performed the role of the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and the role of Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana.

Gregory has held faculty positions at the University of Florida, Concordia University and St. Phillip’s College. 

She completed her doctorate in voice performance at the University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master of Music degree from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida.

Gregory recently received the Young Leaders Award from the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
