Laredo artist’s legacy promotes the arts at LCC

The visual arts program at Laredo Community College has received a major boost, thanks to the legacy of the late Laredo-born artist Helen Richter Watson. Trustees of Richter’s estate, nephews Jonathan Watson and James K. Jones, were recently on campus to present college officials with a check for $17,000, which will provide scholarships to students in the visual arts. On hand for the announcement were, from left, LCC art instructor Dan McInnis, LCC President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina, Watson, Jones, LCC art instructor Eva Soliz and LCC Art Department chair Dale Short. Students interested in applying for the new scholarships are encouraged to visit the LCC Financial Aid Office or call 721-5361.
