The temperature may continue to drop across the city, but it’s going to be a balmy night at Laredo Community College on Monday, Dec. 4, when students, faculty and staff celebrate their first ever bonfire, dubbed Autumn Blaze.
College officials said that Autumn Blaze will serve to launch final exams week and to celebrate the end of the fall semester at LCC.
The celebration begins with complimentary hot dogs, refreshments and music at 6 p.m. behind the LCC swimming pool on the north side of the main campus. The bonfire is lit at 7 p.m.
LCC President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina is pleased that the college came up with a creative and efficient way to rid itself of some refuse.
“Laredo Community College has received permission from the city and the state to burn piles of tree trunks and branches in order to dispose of them in a cost-saving manner. We have turned this into a celebration bonfire to kickoff the end of another exciting term, prepare for final exams next week and the anticipation of the holiday season,” LCC President Dr. Ramon Dovalina said.
On the weekend (Dec. 9-10), faculty from selected disciplines will be at both main and south campuses to help students prepare for final exams week, Dec. 11-15.
Complimentary refreshments, courtesy of the LCC Student Activities Office, will be available to students and faculty at both campuses on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Kazen College Center and the Billy Hall Student Center.
