LCC to offer Second Start Semester

It’s not too late to become a champion at Laredo Community College!

That’s because enrollment is under way for the Second Start Semester, an opportunity for students to complete their degree plan or get a jump on a new career this fall at LCC.  Classes begin Monday, Oct. 23.

The Second Start Semester was created by LCC to benefit students several ways, said Dr. Nora Garza, associate vice president for instruction.

“The Second Start Semester allows students to complete full-credit courses in just eight weeks.  Additionally, classes are available online, in the evenings and on Fridays and Saturdays for the student’s convenience,” Garza said.

The Second Start Semester schedule offers an array of academic and technical courses to choose from.

Among the online courses offered are: accounting, introduction to computers, macroeconomics, American literature, United States history, business and trade, college algebra, elementary statistical methods, medical terminology, music appreciation, nursing, Spanish and speech communication.

Courses available at the main campus include art appreciation, carpentry, electrical technology, federal government, Texas government, United States history, aerobic activities, advance college reading and nursing.

Courses available at LCC’s south campus include private security officer training, physical fitness and sports, psychology, advance college reading, and sociology.

A course in speech communication also will be offered in Zapata.

Students may register for these courses now through Sunday, Oct. 22 via the college’s On Line Enrollment (OLÉ) system at http://ole.laredo.edu, where you  can  find  the  Second  Start  Semester  schedule,  too.    Students  also  may register by visiting the LCC Admissions/Registration Office at the main campus in Memorial Hall, room 125 or at LCC South in the Billy Hall Student Center, room 113.

When selecting courses, students must enter the call number listed on the schedule, as these are the only classes available during this special term.

Payment of tuition and fees is due in person by 12 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at the LCC Bursar’s Office, or online with a credit card by 11 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 via the OLÉ web system.
