LCC launches Hispanic Heritage Month celebration

Traditional dances from Mexico and a captivating guitar performance will help launch the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at Laredo Community College Wednesday, Sept. 27.

The LCC Student Activities Office will host a concert featuring the LCC Ballet Folklorico and LCC guitar instructor/professional guitarist Dr. Cain Budds and company on Wednesday beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Kazen College Center.

Admission to the cultural celebration is free and open to students and the public.

Under the direction of adjunct dance instructor Alicia McKinnis, the ballet folklorico will perform traditional dances from the various states of Mexico.

Budds and company will perform an array of popular works for the guitar.

Wednesday’s performances are the beginning to LCC’s observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, which includes the presentation of a major film festival, a performance consisting of Aztec Indian dances, a poetry recital, a Chicano-Latino book fair and much more on Oct. 3 and 4 at the LCC main campus and on Oct. 5 at LCC South.

The film screenings, part of the Cine Cuauhtemoc Pan American Film Festival of the Museo Guadalupe Aztlan in Houston, will consist of an array of independent film shorts, documentaries, and experimental film.  The film screenings are free and open to LCC students, faculty and staff.
