Cheer the Palominos at sendoff on Thursday
Show your support for the Laredo Community College men's and women's tennis teams as they gear up for national tournament action by attending a Palomino Tennis Sendoff on Thursday, May 1 at 11:15 a.m. in the Kazen College Center.
Come meet the members of the Palomino men's and women's tennis teams. LCC President Dr. Juan L. Maldonado will be present to offer some words of encouragement to the teams.
The women’s team is heading to Arizona May 4-8. The last time the Lady Palominos attended nationals was 2002.
Coach Jaime Donjuan said that Tyler Junior College looks like the team LCC will have to beat to win nationals. LCC was edged out recently by Tyler 4-5 at regionals, but Donjuan feels very optimistic about the Lady Palominos clinching their first national title in program history.
The latest national poll released last week ranks the LCC women’s team in fifth place—a dramatic jump from last year’s 14th-ranked spot.
The Palomino men are looking to defend their national title for the fourth consecutive year. The national tournament will be May 12-16 in Plano, Texas.
Donjuan says that the outlook looks great for the Palomino men's team after the recent win over Tyler at the regional tournament.
"But, of course, anything can happen," Donjuan added.
Best of luck to the mighty Palominos!
