Deadline for state scholarship is Jan. 9 at LCC
Incoming freshmen planning to enroll this spring at Laredo Community College still have a chance to apply for a $500 scholarship from the Greater Texas Foundation.
The deadline to apply for the new scholarship at LCC is Friday, Jan. 9. Interested persons are encouraged to obtain an application from the LCC Financial Aid Office at the Fort McIntosh or South Campus.
Interested students may obtain the scholarship application on Tuesday, Jan. 6, when the LCC campuses reopen from their winter break.
LCC and the Greater Texas Foundation, a Texas non-profit corporation of the county of Brazos, have partnered to provide $500 scholarships to 100 incoming freshmen who plan to enroll full-time this spring at the Fort McIntosh or South Campuses.
The Greater Texas Foundation supports excellence in education by increasing access for all Texans and improving educational quality through public-private partnerships.
To qualify, the applicant must be a first-time college student that must complete the Greater Texas Foundation scholarship application and the 2008-2009 FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) form (listing LCC).
The applicant must have a complete file submitted in the LCC Financial Aid Office and enroll full-time this spring (at least 12 hours) at LCC.
Scholarship recipients will participate in a college orientation, where they also will receive an overview of the foundation and learn about giving back to their community.
“This scholarship is open to any first-time college student, regardless of age, who is seriously motivated about attending Laredo Community College to improve their lives,” said Dr. Nora Garza, vice president for resource development at LCC.
The scholarship can be used by the recipient for books, tuition and fees for the spring 2009 term.
