LCC IN THE NEWS - DECEMBER 2004

Laredo Community College faculty will be on campus this weekend, December 11 and 12, to offer special one-on-one assistance to students preparing to take their final exams at both the main and south campuses.

Final exams week for the Fall 2004 semester at LCC is December 13-17. While many colleges shut down on the eve of finals week, LCC has offered Review Weekend for many years as an opportunity for students to prepare for better outcomes on final exams.

“Laredo Community College is recognized in the state as one of the colleges with the best retention rates of first-time college students,” says Dr. Juan L. Maldonado, Vice-President of Instruction and Student Development. “Initiatives such as Review Weekend encourage our students to succeed and continue their studies.”

Faculty from several areas of instruction will be available to meet with students in selected classrooms. This includes Allied Health, Art, Child Development, Computer Technology, Foreign Languages, Math, Nursing, Protective Services, Science and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Students should consult with their instructors as to the availability of faculty assistance during Review Weekend.

The Harold R. Yeary Library will be open on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Senator Judith Zaffirini Library at the South campus will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also, the computer-assisted tutoring center and vocational-technical computer labs at the Lerma-Peña Learning Center and the LCC South Learning Enrichment Center will be open to aid students with their final exam reviews. The facilities will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Personal peer tutoring in reading, math and English will also be available. A valid college student ID is necessary to access these services.

Computer labs in the Hachar Vocational Building will also be open to students on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Additionally, the Student Activities Office will offer a hospitality service for students to take a break from reviews on Saturday at both campuses. Beverages and pastry will be available in the Kazen Center from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for students preparing for their finals. Students must use the west-side doors of the Kazen Center to gain entrance into the facility.
