LCC, VMT host Guitar Recital Tuesday

 

The Guitar Studio programs of Laredo Community College and Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts are joining forces to present a special recital on Tuesday, December 7. 

The music concert will be on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center on the LCC main campus on West End Washington Street.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The recital will include solo and ensemble performances by college and high school guitarists.

“This is a unique collaboration which Laredo Community College is pleased to be sharing the spotlight with the VMT Magnet School,” said LCC Guitar Studio Director Cain Budds.  “We invite the community to show their support for these talented student musicians by attending this exciting performance.”

Among the solo performers representing LCC will be Jose Torres, Abel Padilla, Israel Cruz, Arnold Yzaguirre, Eric Espinola, Ernesto Garza, Fred Barrera, Alberto Islas and Carlos Castañeda. 

The musical selections will vary from Francisco Tarrega’s “Pavana” to “The Rose in the Garden” by Carlo Domeniconi.

The LCC Guitar Ensembles I and II will perform music from W.A. Mozart, Pieter Van Der Staak, Michio Miyagi and G.P. Telemann, among other noted composers.

The VMT Magnet School Guitar Studio, led by Director Ricardo Cortez, will feature solo performances by Alfredo Gonzalez, Joel Gonzalez and Carlos Rodriguez.  It will also include ensemble performances by Joyce Ochoa, Olinda Santos, Hiroshi Wong, Joaquin Zapico, Reynaldo Cabrera, Adolfo Guevara, David Martinez, Jesus Sandoval, Jesus Garza, Oscar Rangel, Francisco Hernandez, Joel Gonzalez, Carlos Rodriguez, Martha Rodriguez, Mayte

Guevara and Gerardo Mata.  

The music selections will include Mauro Giuliani’s “Study in E Minor, Opus 48, No. 5,” “Canon and Gigue” by Johann Pachelbel, Mikola Leontovich’s “Carol of the Bells” and Mozart’s “Sonatine Viennoise,” among other pieces.
