LCC students work to increase voter awareness
Laredo Community College is working closely on the local and national front lines to increase voter awareness among students and community.
LCC’s student chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will sponsor a voter registration drive August 24 to 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. in the Kazen College Center lobby. LCC students, faculty, staff and the public are encouraged to participate.
Locally, LCC is working in partnership with the “Yes, I Will Vote!” Coalition, a non-partisan group consisting of media outlets, educational institutions and the Laredo Chamber of Commerce.
LCC is also working on the national level in association with Phi Theta Kappa and the Project Vote Smart organization to offer a comprehensive non-partisan voter awareness campaign. The goal is to increase voter awareness among two-year college students who may be registered or non-registered voters. Voter registration drives are among the initiatives that the national project encourages PTK chapters among America’s community colleges to host for the benefit of students and community.
