Laredo Community College has been offering environmental science camps throughout the summer and two sessions remain open for the month of July. Organizers from the LCC Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center encourage parents to sign up their children quickly before all sessions are filled.
The camp sessions with openings for more students include a one-week, half-day session for ages 6 to 8 and a full-day and a one-week advanced session for ages 12 to 15.
Junior campers (ages 6-8) will meet Monday through Friday, July 19-23, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Daycare is available until 4:30 p.m. for an additional charge.
The advanced camp session will also meet, July 19-23, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The junior camp encourages participants to appreciate and respect the environment and nature’s living creatures. Campers will have an opportunity to study native wildlife in its natural habitat at LCC’s Paso del Indio Nature Trail.
The advanced camp, for ages 12 to 15, will include aquatic biology, snorkeling, introduction to scuba diving, kayaking and canoeing, among other activities.
Awards will be presented to all campers at the completion of each session. Lunch will also be provided.
The junior camp fee is $100. The advanced camp fee is $175. For more information or to sign up for the LBVESC Summer Camps, call 764-5701. LBVESC office hours during the summer are Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
