LCC adds water classes to summer schedule

More Laredo Community College students can make a splash this summer with the offering of nine additional aquatic courses during the second summer session.

Beverly Boling, LCC’s newest kinesiology instructor, will teach various sections of beginning and intermediate swimming, as well as water aerobics.  These classes were recently added to the Summer Session II offerings and are not listed on the printed course schedule.

Day and evening course additions are:

KINE    1115 MO2 (beginning swimming) 7:40 to 9:40 a.m.

           1116 MO2 (intermediate swimming) 7:40 to 9:40 a.m.

           1129 MO2 (water aerobics) 7:40 to 9:40 a.m.

KINE    1115 MO3 (beginning swimming) 10 a.m. to 12 noon

           1116 MO3 (intermediate swimming) 10 a.m. to 12 noon

           1129 MO3 (water aerobics) 10 a.m. to 12 noon

KINE    1115 MO4 (beginning swimming) 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

           1116 MO4 (intermediate swimming) 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

           1129 MO4 (water aerobics) 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Students in the beginner’s swimming class learn basic swimming strokes and are oriented to deep water, safety and rescue skills.  Students in the intermediate level of this class review basic strokes and learn advanced strokes, and standard Red Cross lifesaving techniques.

The water aerobics class is a fun and unique way to promote cardiovascular fitness.

All aquatic classes will meet Monday through Thursday in the junior Olympic size pool at the LCC Sports and Recreation Center.  The in-district tuition and fees for each one college-credit hour course is $58.

Boling holds a Masters in Education in Kinesiology from Auburn University in Alabama and a Masters in Science in Nutrition from the University of Tennessee.  She is also a certified Red Cross water safety instructor and lifeguard, as well as a registered dietician.

Boling, who joined LCC this spring, has taught physical education at various schools, including Chicago State, Auburn, West Texas A&M and Brookhaven Community College in Dallas.

Register for these classes for Summer II on July 6 in the Maravillo Gymnasium.  Registration will be by alphabetical and open sequence.  The second summer session starts on July 7.
