Palominos to launch baseball season Jan. 31
The Laredo Community College Palomino baseball team launches its spring 2004 season under the leadership of new head coach John Maley on Saturday, January 31.
The LCC Palominos will face the Blinn College Buccaneers in a doubleheader on Jan. 31, beginning at 12 noon at LCC Doc Sanchez Field. A match between the two Region 14 athletic conference teams will also be held on Sunday, February 1, at 11 a.m.
Also during Sunday’s game, the LCC Athletic Department will announce the winner of the Harley Davidson fundraiser. First prize is a 2003 HD-Buell motorcycle and two tickets to participate in the HD Riders Edge course for new riders. Second prize will be two HD leather bomber jackets. Third prize will be a $100 gift certificate good at the Laredo HD Shop. The winners need not be present. Proceeds benefit the LCC Athletics Department. Tickets for the benefit are still available for sale at the LCC Athletics Department in the Maravillo Gymnasium.
Admission to all games is free of charge to students, Palomino fans and community.
The 28-member Palomino baseball team includes Laredo standouts J.J. Villafranca and Edward Teniente. The remainder of the team includes imports from various parts of Texas, Illinois, British Columbia, Michigan, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico. Chase Tidwell is the assistant coach.
