Laredo Community College will inject some humor to its message to keep students safe and sober this spring break week with a comedy show featuring national campus entertainer Bernie McGrenahan on Wednesday, March 10.
Sponsored by the LCC Student Advisory Board, the comedy show will begin at 1p.m. in the Kazen College Center. Admission is free to students and the public.
McGrenahan’s “Happy Hour” comedy show is regarded as one of the most popular programs addressing the high-risk concerns of excessive drinking among college students.
McGrenahan says he opens his program with a comedy show, which attracts and entertains students. Then making a subtle twist, he confronts the leading substance abuse problem among college students: alcohol.
The nationally-recognized entertainer says that he does not exaggerate his alcohol consumption and experiences to qualify with students. His testimony is honest and true. He says that he has lived it and seen firsthand the destruction that alcohol can cause. His excessive drinking led to poor grades, dropping out of college, three DUIs and a six-month jail sentence. McGrenahan also lost his 19-year-old brother as a result of his battle with substance abuse.
Now 14 years free from alcohol and drugs, McGrenahan shares his experiences and triumphs. His “Happy Hour” program is an inspirational testimony of one man’s ability to walk away from peer pressure towards a more healthy, productive and responsible way of life.
