LCC to host community-wide blood drive Wednesday

Laredo Community College students, faculty and staff can become life savers by becoming donors for a community-wide blood drive hosted by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center on Wednesday, June 23, at the LCC campus.

The campus community and the public are invited to participate in the blood drive on June 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Kazen College Center.

The campus blood drives, operated yearly by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center with the cooperation of LCC Health Services, are traditionally successful events which attract caring blood donors.

"This past spring, the LCC Blood Drive was successful in finding 35 qualified blood donors.  Each donor contributed one pint of blood, which helped alleviate the blood supply shortage in the local hospitals," said Health Services Coordinator Carmen Garcia.

"The college hopes to see another good turnout at the upcoming blood drive," she added.

To donate blood, the donor should be 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health.  Donors will also need to present appropriate identification.  They should also drink plenty of fluids before and after donating.  Eat at least four hours before donating.

For more information, contact LCC Health Services by calling 721-5189.
