Laredo Community College students, faculty and staff have an opportunity “save lives” by becoming donors for a community-wide blood drive hosted by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center on Wednesday, August 4, at the Kazen College Center.
The campus community and the public are invited to participate in the blood drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center of San Antonio has received a positive response from the LCC community in the past years that the nonprofit organization has held blood drives on campus.
"It's commendable how Laredo Community College students, faculty and staff continuously show their commitment to worthy projects such as this one," says Health Services Coordinator Carmen Garcia. “The last blood drive held on campus in the spring exceeded its goal.”
"One blood donation can save up to three lives. The college hopes to see another good turnout at the upcoming blood drive," says Garcia.
To donate blood, the donor should be 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. Donors will also need to present appropriate identification. Donors should drink plenty of fluids before and after donating. They should also eat at least four hours before donating.
Donors will receive complimentary refreshments, an opportunity to win a gift certificate from the LCC Bookstore and a mini-physical consisting of blood, iron level, pulse and temperature checks.
