LCC student is selected Microsoft IT Academy Program Champion

A life filled with challenges has not deterred Laredo Community College student Daniel A. Treviño from pursuing his “passion for computer technology” and achieving success.

This month, Treviño earns his associate’s degree in networking technologies from LCC and is featured on the Microsoft web site as the Microsoft IT Academy Program Champion.

As a member of the Microsoft IT Academy Program, LCC is one of 500 schools in the nation that offers basic through advanced IT training, degrees and certification opportunities designed to fit the needs of every student.

A Microsoft IT Academy Program Champion is selected each month to distinguish outstanding students or faculty who demonstrate excellence, passion, and best practices in the use of technology. Champions receive a generous software package from Microsoft, a certificate of recognition and a feature photo and story on the Microsoft web site: www.MicrosoftITacademy.com.

Treviño was named the Microsoft IT Academy Program Champion for May.

Treviño’s search for a better life, as highlighted on the Microsoft website, began years ago when he moved from Mexico to the U.S.  He spent 11 years in custodial services working his way up to head supervisor at a local public school district.

A single parent of a seven-year-old, Treviño returned to school to pursue an Associate in Applied Science Degree with specialization in Networking Technology at LCC.  Today, he has been identified as the top graduate in his field and earned his degree with honors on May 8.

Treviño is elated to receive the honor and looks forward to a bright future.  He credits his success to the quality instruction delivered by the caring instructors and the Microsoft authorized instructional programs available at LCC.

I have always had a passion for computer technology,” said Treviño. "The Microsoft IT Academy Program at Laredo Community College has given me the opportunity to reach the level of expertise that is demanded by the IT industry."

Treviño took a variety of Microsoft courses at LCC, which included hardware, networks, inter-networks, and operating systems. He plans to take his Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification exam after graduation.

Enrique Garcia is one of the college instructors who taught Treviño and watched him become a “model student.”  He has great confidence in his “number one student.”

“Daniel has been able to demonstrate teamwork and dedication to his studies, as well as an aptitude for applying his newly acquired networking knowledge,” said Garcia.  “I have no doubt that he will be a highly valued asset to any company.”

Luciano Ramon, Computer Information System/Computer Electronics Department Chairman at LCC, also speaks highly of Treviño.  He added that Treviño is a fine example of the benefits that LCC offers via its strategic relationship with Microsoft.

“Through the Microsoft IT Academy, LCC students receive training from the finest and best certified instructors using the latest authorized courseware. This positions them well to pass associated certification exams and to be successful in the business world,” said Ramon.

He added that the CIS curricula offered by LCC through the Microsoft IT Academy delivers an academic base required for an associate in applied science degree in conjunction with industry certified courses that equip students with the latest real-world IT job skills.

“The Microsoft IT Academy Program ensures that every student has the opportunity to participate in the technology-driven economy,” said Brian Bratonia, Microsoft IT Academy Program Manager, Microsoft. “Students gain valuable skills, degrees, and certifications that lead to more profitable and rewarding career options. We are proud to acknowledge champions who are using their training to achieve personal and professional goals.”
