Laredo Community College’s Continuing Education programs are a smart and fast alternative for adults seeking to get the skills they need to get a job or to get ahead in life.
With the opening of a second campus in 2004, the LCC Continuing Education Department will offer greater opportunities to secure quality and affordable workforce training.
Continuing Education (CE) at LCC is buzzing with energy as staff members prepare to launch the first set of CE classes at LCC South in March 2004.
“The LCC Continuing Education Department is creating many exciting initiatives for the benefit of persons seeking access to quality career skills training. The second campus will enable the college to expand its services to the community and South Laredo,” said Director Lewis Pack.
Among the new endeavors available to adults is a General Office Clerk Certificate program, which will be offered at both campuses. The cost of the training program is $430. Financial aid is available to eligible persons through the Texas Workforce Center. For more information call 794-6500.
The 240-hour certificate program consists of six classes, focusing on an array of topics such as general office skills, keyboarding, communication skills, word processing, Microsoft Excel, plus Internet and e-mail.
The first training program will be launched at the LCC campus on Washington Street beginning February 2.
The second training program will be held at the new LCC South campus beginning March 1.
Computer technology is an important function of everyday living, whether it is for work, study or recreation, said Jane Heidt, Continuing Education Projects Coordinator.
“The LCC Continuing Education Department is offering an array of computer courses to support training for current and emerging technology,” said Heidt. “Most courses are short term, and available days, evenings and weekends to better accommodate the schedules of adults on the go.”
The level of the coursework ranges from the basics to the sophisticated.
For example, the Computer Crash course offers a comprehensive overview about the computer. This is an ideal class for someone who has never worked with a computer.
The “Create Your Own Web Page using FrontPage” class shows students how to develop home pages on the World Wide Web. Students will learn about web browsers and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), among other topics.
Other computer classes available at LCC (in February) and LCC South (in March) are:
· Customized Brochures with Desktop Publishing
· Database Creation with Microsoft Access
· Adobe Acrobat (Advanced)
· Internet and E-mail for General Office Clerks
