NUEVO LAREDO - Laredo Community College snared the International Cup during the 2004 CONALEP de las Fronteras, an international basketball tournament held on the campus of the Colegio de Educacion Profesional Tecnica del Estado de Tamaulipas, June 10-11.
LCC was invited by CONALEP to represent the United States in this international tournament, which attracted teams from various Mexican states.
The LCC team was composed of students who were enrolled in kinesiology courses at the college.
During the first day of the tournament, LCC-USA overpowered CONALEP-Nuevo Leon, 85-35.
LCC advanced in the second day of tournament action to win the championship by defeating CONALEP-Nuevo Leon, 66-24
“I am very proud of our students for bringing the coveted International Cup to Laredo Community College and the city of Laredo, USA,” said Dr. Sara Carrasco, who served as the team sponsor. Erik Donjuan, a kinesiology major at LCC, was the team organizer.
Other members of the LCC team included: Rolando Alvarado, Alvaro Arriaga, Meme Cruz, Rey Garcia, Robert Garcia, Fidel Hale, and Manny Perez.
