LCC trustee filing deadline is Monday

The office of the internal auditor/board election officer at Laredo Community College will be open on Monday, March 15, to accept applications from candidates seeking to file for a place on the Laredo Community College trustee election ballot.  Although the LCC campus will be closed for spring break week through March 21, the college’s election officer Nora Stewart will accept applications on Monday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 5 p.m.

The elections officer is located in the LCC Administration Annex Building, room 101.

Vacancies on the nine member board include: Position 1, currently held by Cynthia Mares; Position 2, currently held by Dr. Leonides G. Cigarroa, Jr.; and Position 3, currently held by Sabas Zapata, III.

The LCC District will hold the election on Saturday, May 15.

Residents of the LCC college district, which encompasses the city limits of Laredo, can file to become a candidate if they meet the following criteria:

- Must be a registered voter.

- Must reside within the Laredo Community College District.

- Must take proper oath of office and serve as trustee without compensation.

A campaign treasurer must also be appointed and documents filed before any contributions are accepted or expenditures are made on behalf of a candidate.

Trustees are elected to six-year, staggered terms.  The Board meets monthly, holds special meetings, and committee meetings.          The Board’s responsibilities are to:

·                    * set the policies or regulations under which LCC is to be operated;
