Laredo Community College students and art lovers can meet nationally renowned artist E.C. Cunningham and view his work during a reception on Wednesday, March 24. Cunningham, most recently of Colorado, is a professional artist/educator/author whose work is currently on exhibit at the LCC Art Teaching Gallery.
The reception on March 24 will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the LCC Art Teaching Gallery. Admission is free to students and the public. Refreshments will be served.
Cunningham’s exhibit consists of more than 20 art pieces, including collographs, silk prints, collage and paintings.
“My visual creative works are a personal internalized reaction to observations and investigations I have had as an artist living and working in the West,” said Cunningham. “My work is an attempt to discuss the experience of personal travel in a literal, spiritual and sometimes fantasized sense. How this travel and/or how we as people are measured and the relationships inherent in our existence are selectively examined.”
Cunningham has been a long-time professor and printmaking area coordinator at the Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. He has authored several publications and has exhibited his work throughout the United States.
Cunningham holds a BFA from Wichita State University and an MFA from the University of Colorado.
He is the author of H.E.L.P, Higher Education Logic for Printmaking, a 308 page book documentation of teaching philosophy, assignments and techniques, edited from 55 professional printmaking academics. His most recent publication, Book Introduction for Lynwood Kreneck, Printmaker, was published by Texas Tech University Press in March 2003.
Cunningham has had his work featured in exhibitions held in New York, Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Nebraska, Illinois, Wyoming, Indiana, West Virginia, and Michigan, among other states.
The exhibit can be viewed March 22 through March 24. Gallery hours are Monday from 12 to 2 p.m., Tuesday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
