Cristina Greco to host flamenco workshop at LCC
Laredo Community College adjunct dance instructor Cristina Godines-Greco will share her expertise in the art of flamenco dancing with students and community on Saturday, February 28.
The LCC Music and Dance Department will host a free Master Dance Workshop led by the Laredo-born flamenco dancer on Feb. 28 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the LCC Music and Dance Building I, room 107. Young dancers are invited to attend from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Intermediate/advanced dancers can attend from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free of charge to students and the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Laredo Community College is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for students and community to study flamenco with a highly-skilled dancer and choreographer such as Cristina Greco,” said Music and Dance Department Chairperson Danuta U. Gazdyszyn. “It is especially a valuable chance for potential students to ‘sample’ the quality of instruction that Ms. Greco delivers as a dance instructor at LCC.”
High school students are also invited to the workshop, noted Gazdyszyn.
Ms. Greco was a member of Jose Greco Sr.'s final touring company and a pioneer of the Jose Greco II Flamenco Dance Company, which has allowed her to perform in some of the most prestigious theaters throughout the entire continental United States, Canada, the Virgin Islands, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan and Alaska.
Greco is a 1990 graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pa. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance performance and education and was the recipient of the Outstanding Choreography Award, as well as the Stella Moore Award.
She has performed many of her works at university and college dance programs throughout North and Central America. One of her dance projects was created in collaboration with and performed by Lola Greco for the National Ballet of Spain in 1994.
