LCC
to host reception for ‘La Frontera’ magazine
Literature and art lovers are invited to join Laredo Community College for a reception to honor the writers and artists who contributed to the Fall 2003 edition of the college magazine, La Frontera on Wednesday, January 28.
The reception will begin at 3 p.m. in the Arena Theater inside the LCC Adkins Building. Admission is free and open to students and the public.
Now in its 18th issue of publication, La Frontera recently came under the editorial direction of LCC English Instructor Toni Howell.
Part of the magazine’s goal, noted Howell, is to showcase the community’s unique linguistic experience.
“Issue 18 of La Frontera captures Laredo’s daily language before it heads south to Mexico City or north to Dallas. Examples of both academic Spanish and academic English are present in this issue,” said Howell.
In addition to the literary features, the magazine also highlights the artistic talents of LCC students. The front cover bursts with color, courtesy of an oil painting, entitled Bouquet, by LCC art student Zonia T. Garza. The back cover also includes a digital color photograph, entitled, Focus II, by LCC photography student Mildred Marroquin.
Copies of the new edition of La Frontera will be available on campus. For more information, contact Howell by calling 721-5222.
