expands popular WBCA Fun Fest
Laredo Community College says “Get More” from your Fun Fest in 2004. This year, there’s a Fun Fest for the whole family taking place on Laredo Community College on February 15.
The former Children’s Fun Fest will be expanded to include games, music, food and fun for the whole family as LCC takes on this annual WBCA tradition.
In line with the college’s “Get More” slogan, event organizers hope to attract larger crowds by adding more attractions and activities for all ages.
LCC’s new Family Fun Fest and Musicale is set for Sunday, February 15, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on the college campus grounds next to the Maravillo Gymnasium. Admission to this family-friendly event is free of charge.
“Laredo Community College has enjoyed its longtime association with WBCA and is proud to build on that tradition by introducing the LCC Family Fun Fest, ” said LCC President Dr. Ramon H. Dovalina. “We’re adding more music, more fun events for teens and adults, but we’re keeping the ponies and the kiddie fun, too.”
The celebration will also keep the LCC Musicale, a cultural extravaganza showcasing the vibrant growth of the college’s performing arts programs. This year’s cultural celebration will range from the intricate and bold steps of modern dance, to the musical rhythms of jazz, orchestral and pop music.
Among the groups scheduled to perform include the LCC Show Band, the LCC Orchestra and the LCC Dance Theatre.
“As a community college, we are especially proud to showcase students in LCC’s music and dance programs—a tremendous pool of Laredo talent— in the Musicale portion of the Fun Fest, ” says Danuta U. Gazdyszyn, Music and Dance Department Chairperson.
Exhilarating
attractions and activities for kids of all ages include rock climbing, giant
slide, bounce house, petting zoo and pony rides.
Various student organizations and clubs will operate food concessions and new fun games for the whole family.
Participating student groups and their activities/food concessions are: Palomino Volleyball Team – face painting and balloons; Allied Health Clubs – pizza and bottled water; Criminal Justice Club – children’s photo ID and fingerprinting; Child Care Club – puppet shows; Physical Therapist Assistant Club –cake walk; Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center – wild animal shows; Future Teachers Club – fruit cocktail; Pequeña Barraca Spanish Club – pop a balloon; LCC Alpha Sigma – Cokes; CIS Club – corn in a cup and soft drinks; Multicultural Student Club – tostadas; and Art Club – Mexican candy.
