LCC Fun Fest adds more family fun, Sunday

An exciting exhibit on African wildlife, spicy antojitos and a challenging obstacle course for teens were among the excitement that the young and young at heart enjoyed during Laredo Community College's first ever Family Fun Fest on Sunday, February 15.

This year the Fun Fest, a popular celebration of the WBCA family of events, was expanded for adults, teens and children to GET MORE fun.  The outdoor fiesta was held on the campus grounds next to the Maravillo Gymnasium.

Among the attractions were a new taxidermy exhibit on African wildlife, presented by the Laredo Children’s Museum located on campus.  The exhibit includes lions, cougars, water buffalos and much more.

Young adults were able to test their physical abilities and have fun at an obstacle course, courtesy of the U.S. Marines.

For kids, they were able to enjoy the bounce house, giant slide, pony rides, a petting zoo, and simulated rock climbing.  Other fun activities, sponsored by LCC student organizations, included face painting, tire toss, math games, puppet shows, story reading and more.

LCC’s music and dance student groups offered an afternoon of quality family entertainment during the Fun Fest’s Musicale, featuring performances by the Mariachi Palomino, the modern Dance Theatre, LCC Ballet Folklorico, Chamber Orchestra, Palomino Cheerleaders, the LCC Show Band, LCC Guitar Ensemble and LCC voice students.  Invited guests included the Higher Grounds Dance Studio, Cantu Dance, the Blessed Sacrament School Cheerleaders and the Octavio Salinas School Cheerleaders.

Student organizations and vendors sold an array of food concessions, including gorditas, tortas, fajita tacos, turkey legs, pizza, frito pies, hamburgers, corn in a cup, and much more.
