Gator Aid benefit for LCC Science Center on April 23
Tickets are now on sale for community to party with a wild flair. Friends of the environment and the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center at Laredo Community College are invited to support the third annual Gator Aid dinner benefit to be held Friday, April 23.
Billed as a celebration and environmentally friendly fundraiser, Gator Aid will be held outdoors at the LCC LBVE Science Center from 7 to 9 p.m. A catered dinner of either top sirloin or red snapper and other delicacies will be served. “Gator-ritas,” the Science Center’s version of the margarita, will also be available.
The evening function will feature romantic music under the stars performed by the LCC Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Instructor Cain Budds. Tours of the Science Center’s newest exhibits will also be offered throughout the evening.
Admission to the benefit is $40 per person and includes a one-day family pass to the LBVE Science Center. Proceeds from the benefit will aid the growing gator family and other native specimens housed at the Center. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door.
Gator Aid is part of a grand celebration observing the fifth year anniversary of the Science Center.
Located on the north side of the LCC campus in close proximity to the Rio Grande, the Science Center serves as a living laboratory for LCC students. It has also become an important
center for science education for the region’s students in Grades PK-12 and a popular tourist attraction. Through its educational curriculum and hands-on approach, the Center promotes an understanding and respect for the relationship between man and environment.
The Center features hands-on demonstrations, water areas for live specimens native to the Rio Grande ecosystem, growing areas for native vegetation, wildlife diorama displays, a wetlands demonstration project and the adjacent Paso del Indio Nature Trail, which stretches over one mile long.
