LCC to hold annual GED graduation May 7

People who have recently completed the requirements for the GED (General Educational Development) Diploma in Laredo or elsewhere are invited to participate in Laredo Community College's annual GED graduation ceremony on Friday, May 7. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in the Maravillo Gymnasium on campus.   The deadline to apply for graduation is Friday, April 30.

Individuals who successfully passed all portions of the GED exam between May 2003 and April 2004 are eligible to participate in the ceremony, says Alma L. Hernandez, Dean of Workforce Development at LCC.

"Laredo Community College annually hosts this special event to recognize these individuals for reaching a significant milestone in their lives," says Hernandez.

"This ceremony is open to all persons who completed their GED requirements during the prescribed timeline in Laredo or any another city," notes Hernandez. "All they need to bring is a copy of their GED certificate to validate their achievement."

Scholarship opportunities are also available for GED graduates to DO MORE at LCC.  Applications are available at the LCC Adult Education Department and are due by April 30 before 12 noon.

To participate in the graduation ceremony, individuals should report to the LCC Bursar's office to pay a $10 fee for the rental of the graduation cap and gown. The Bursar's office is located in University Hall, room 121. Payments will be accepted until Friday, April 30, before 12 noon.

The GED candidate for graduation should then report to the Adult Education Department, located in Eloy Garcia Building, room 10, to get measured for the graduation regalia.
