
Laredo Community College will formally recognize recipients of the General Educational Development (GED) Diploma during the 35th annual GED Commencement on Friday, May 7, in the Maravillo Gymnasium.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. Family and friends of the graduates, as well as the public, are invited to attend.
Hosted by the LCC Adult Education Program Tri-County Co-op for Webb, Zapata and Jim Hogg Counties, more than 80 individuals will be conferred diplomas. Approximately 300 persons who passed all portions of the GED exam between May 2003 and April 2004 were eligible to participate in the traditional ceremony.
Commencement addresses will be provided by May 2004 GED graduate Jose Luis Garza and LCC English as a Second Language Instructor Ricardo Vergara.
A highlight of the ceremony will be the presentation of nine scholarships, totaling $9,000 to deserving graduates who plan to continue their education at LCC this fall. This will include presentation of six LCC Merit Scholarships and scholarships from International Bank of Commerce (Antonio R. Sanchez, Sr. Memorial Scholarship), Sony Magnetics and the LCC Citizens Advisory Committee.
