Adults can start the New Year by learning a new pastime at Laredo Community College. This spring, the LCC Kinesiology Department is offering a Beginner’s Golf class.
Teaching the class for the third year will be J.D. Wendeborn, an avid golfer since 1982. Wendeborn recently retired as instructor in the LCC Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
“As a licensed physical therapist, I enjoy playing and teaching golf, especially as it relates to the physical aspect of the sport,” says Wendeborn.
The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 30, from 8 to 9:20 a.m. at the Casa Blanca Golf Course. The in-district (Laredo resident) tuition is $104.
Wendeborn will focus on the primary fundamentals of golf, including the grip, address of the ball, back swing, downswing, and follow through, as well as an overview on irons, woods and putting.
Although students are encouraged to supply their own golf clubs, special arrangements for those who do not own clubs.
Among the many satisfied students who have taken and continue to take the LCC golf class is Jan Little, who teaches English at LCC.
“Mr. Wendeborn is an excellent golf instructor. He is very patient with students and works closely to help you learn or improve your game,” says Little.
To enroll in the class, report to the LCC Admissions/Registration Office, located in University Hall, room 125. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. For more information about the class, call LCC Kinesiology at 721-5326.
