LCC instructor receives professional accolade

George Gomez, an adjunct instructor in the Emergency Medical Services program at Laredo Community College, has been named Paramedic of the Year by the Laredo Fire Department.

In addition to his teaching duties at LCC, Gomez is a practicing paramedic for the Laredo Fire Department, the ER Department at Doctors Hospital and the EMS unit at the Laredo Entertainment Center.  Gomez joined LCC as an adjunct EMSP instructor in the spring 2002 semester.

Gomez is pleased to have received the honor, which was awarded to him based on the number of nominations received from his colleagues in the Fire Department.  This is also the third year that Gomez earns the accolade.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award from my co-workers, considering that everyone in the Fire Department is equally deserving of earning this recognition,” said Gomez.

“Laredo Community College congratulates Mr. Gomez for achieving this high honor,” said Allied Health Department Chairperson Norma Moore.  “It is assuring to know that LCC students are mentoring with instructors who are recognized among the best in their professional fields.”

Gomez was among the first group of students to be admitted to the EMT program at LCC.  He received his Paramedic Certificate from LCC in 1993 and has been an employee of the Laredo Fire Department since 1994.
