LCC allied health new student applications due Aug. 5

Individuals seeking fall admission into one of four allied health education programs at Laredo Community College have until Thursday, August 5, to submit their application.

Recent high school graduates and returning adult students have an opportunity to train for rewarding careers in the healthcare industry this fall at LCC, including Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Occupational Therapy Assistant. The completed applications are due on August 5 by 6 p.m. in the LCC Allied Health Center, room 117.

LCC's allied health programs provide the instruction necessary to help students succeed in a variety of fields integrated into the healthcare industry.

The Emergency Medical Services curriculum prepares students to use advanced life support systems and skills to save lives. It offers different levels of training from emergency medical technician up to paramedic.

The Medical Assisting program provides graduates with entry-level skills to perform clerical and/or clinical duties in a physician’s office, medical clinic or hospital.  The program offers three certificate plans and an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

The Medical Laboratory Technology program covers the theoretical and practical components of diagnostic laboratory work.  The student who completes this two-year program receives an Associate in Applied Science Degree.

Occupational therapy assistants focus on the development of adaptive skills and performance capacity in patients. The program gives students the skills to help patients overcome barriers to functioning in day-to-day life.

For more information, contact the LCC Allied Health Department by calling 721-5261. Office hours are Monday-Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 7 p.m.
