Theatre arts group pays tribute to educator

 

 

The Laredo Musical Theatre International is dedicating its production of “Fame, The Musical” in memory of retired Zapata educator Lilia Martinez, who is recognized for her contributions to the advancement of the arts in Laredo.  Guadalupe Martinez, and his late wife Lilia, established a family foundation whose contributions helped Laredo Community College build the $8.4 million Fine Arts Center, among other initiatives related to the arts.  “Fame, The Musical” will be presented on the stage of the Martinez Fine Arts Center auditorium, September 10-12.  Present for the dedication are, from left, seated, Deacon Larry Sandlin, Mary Sandlin, Guadalupe Martinez, Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Nora Garza; standing, music director/conductor Brendan Townsend, accompanist Dr. Mary Grace Carroll, director Vernon Carroll, VMT Magnet School Principal Blas Martinez, technical director Zane Richter and producer Sam Johnson.  For ticket information, call the LCC Marketing and Public Information Office at 721-5140.
