The Laredo Community College Mariachi Palomino and the Spanish Traditional Group will present a Noche Mexicana Extravaganza during their Spring 2004 concert on Wednesday, March 10.
Sponsored by the LCC Music and Dance Department, the cultural extravaganza will be March 10 at 7 p.m. in the new Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center Theater on campus. Admission is free and open to the community.
The concert will feature music from Mexico presented by talented student musicians in the college’s two Mariachi Palomino ensembles and the Spanish Traditional Group, led by Music Instructor Ruben Vargas.
Vargas explained that the concert will highlight music, which is bound to the soul and cultural heritage of the community.
“This will be our musical groups’ second concert in the beautiful Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center,” said Vargas. “The student musicians have spent many hours in preparation of this event and hope to see a great turnout from the community at this free concert.”
The Spanish Traditional Group is a 17-piece ensemble composed of singers and guitarists.
The mariachi ensembles also feature singers and musicians playing a variety of instruments, ranging from the trumpet, flute and violin to common instruments of the region, including the vihuela, guitarra, and the guitarron.
