Laredo Community College students and faculty members with a penchant for mathematics will join their counterparts across the nation to celebrate Math Awareness Month on April 20 and 22 on the college campus.
This year’s observance will focus on the networks of mathematics, said LCC Math Instructor and event co-chairperson, Anali Vargas.
To bring awareness to this observance on the local front, LCC will host two community-wide events.
On Tuesday, April 20, the LCC Math Department will host a Poster Competition for middle school students, and a Math Bowl for high school and college students. Winners of the competitions will receive prizes.
The celebration will continue on Thursday, April 22, when LCC hosts a Math Awareness Celebration at 4:30 p.m. in the de la Garza Building, room 101.
Highlights of the event will include the presentation of a proclamation from the Mayor of the City of Laredo, proclaiming the month of April as Math Awareness Month in Laredo. The celebration will also include lectures and the Math Bowl Awards Ceremony.
The event, hosted by the LCC Math Department, is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the community.
