Laredo Community College will present a special musical serenade to moms during the 14th annual LCC Mother’s Day Concert on Sunday, May 9.
Mothers and their families from Los Dos Laredos are invited to attend the concert, which begins at 3 p.m. in the Laredo Civic Center Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. The first 200 moms will also receive a free carnation.
The event is hosted by the LCC Music and Dance Department in association with the City of Laredo.
The concert extravaganza will feature the Spanish Traditional Group and the two ensembles that comprise the popular Mariachi Palomino of LCC. Both groups are under the direction of Music Instructor Ruben Vargas. Also performing will be the LCC Ballet Folklorico, directed by adjunct dance instructor Alicia McKinnis.
Vargas says that the college is pleased to present this important concert to the community.
“Mothers help shape the lives of their children and support the family in so many ways,” said Vargas. “In Laredo, the serenata is a time-honored tradition used to express our love and appreciation for mothers. Laredo Community College is proud to promote and preserve this important cultural heritage and looks forward every year to hosting this musical performance for the benefit of our community.”
The groups will perform an array of music from Latin America, including Solamente Una Vez, Mama, Gema, Tres Regalos, Cariño, Las Mañanitas, En Tu Dia, Amorcito Corazon and many more.
The LCC Mother’s Day Concert will be a special afternoon for moms and their families to spend together. For more information, contact the LCC Music and Dance Department by calling 721-5330.
