A computer technology-based music class offered at Laredo Community College has a new name.
Students seeking to enroll in the popular Computer Electronic Music course this fall should note that the class is now recognized as MUSI 1302 Fundamentals of Music II (Keyboard).
The course content remains the same, says Instructor Dr. Susan Liu. However, the name was changed to align the course with the Core Curriculum Inventory of Courses, which provides a seamless transfer for a bachelor's degree at any state university.
“Students in this innovative course will continue to compose music electronically using state-of-the-art computer technology. The name change was done so that students can transfer this Core course to any state university,” says Liu.
Dr. Liu adds that the students work in a computer lab connected to the Internet to work with MP3 and MIDI tools to post their original compositions on web pages. The course is ideal for music majors and anybody who has the skill to read music.
"This class is open to almost anyone who has taken a music notation course or has some ability to identify notes on staff or piano," says Liu, who holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin.
