LCC videoconference to feature Patch Adams

Technology will allow Laredo Community College students to meet health care activist and motivational speaker Patch Adams on Tuesday, January 27.

The LCC Future Teachers Club, in conjunction with the LCC Student Activities Office, will present a live student leadership videoconference featuring Adams.  He will speak on ways students can have fun working for peace and justice and will present his award-winning short film, “Clowning in Kabul.”

The teleconference will be presented on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in the de la Garza Building, room 101.  Admission is free of charge.

Adams, who describes himself as a “clown activist,” took creative action to address America's growing health care crisis by founding the Gesundheit! Institute in 1972.

Gesundheit! began as a home-based free clinic for those in need of medical attention and care. Since its inception the vision has evolved into the goal of building a free, “silly hospital” in rural West Virginia.  Adams’ story was the inspiration behind the popular major motion picture, "Patch Adams," starring Robin Williams.

During the presentation, Adams will discuss the importance of showing concern for other. He will offer suggestions on changing systems through peaceful revolutions, and show how to make every day the best day of your life, among other topics.

“Laredo Community College is proud to present this entertaining and educational program which should benefit students in their classes and in their lives,” said Margie Moncibais-Sanchez, Student Activities Director.
