A Laredo Community College student organization, dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural arts of the region, has found a new, worthy cause to support—young students in need.
Members of La Pequeña Barraca Spanish Club seek student and community support for a School Supply Drive that will benefit underprivileged school children in Laredo. The benefit has been organized in observance of the upcoming Week of the Young Child, which will be celebrated April 18-24.
“La Pequeña Barraca student club is pleased to lead this worthy effort for the benefit of young students in need. These children can use that extra support from the community to succeed in their studies and in their lives,” said Mirna Alvarez, a long-time member and past president of the student organization.
Now through April 23, donations for the school supply drive can be delivered to the LCC Foreign Languages Department, located in the Lerma-Peña Learning Center, room 207. Donations will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The college will be closed April 9 to April 12 for the Easter holiday.
Donations may include notebooks, pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, crayons, scissors, glue, clay and rulers.
