Laredo Community College students will be able to make an informed decision during the upcoming presidential elections, thanks to a series of nationally televised debates that will be presented at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater, beginning Thursday, September 30.
LCC students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to watch a theatre-style presentation of the C-SPAN TV Presidential Debates at the Martinez Fine Arts Center. The debates are sponsored by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates. Each debate starts at 8 p.m. and is expected to last 90 minutes.
“The televising of the Presidential Debates on a large screen in Laredo Community College’s impressive Martinez Fine Arts Center provides a public service and education to our student body. This is a bipartisan event for students to examine this year’s candidates,” said Kevin Bishop, a new history instructor at LCC and the event organizer.
The first presidential debate on September 30 will focus on domestic policy. Future debates include Vice-Presidential Candidates on October 5, a second Presidential Debate on October 8, and a third Presidential Debate (focusing on foreign policy) on October 13.
No large bags, backpacks, containers or food/drink will be allowed in the Martinez Fine Arts Center. The event is intended for college students and employees. No political signs or on-site discussion of the debates will be allowed.
