The Laredo Community College Opera Workshop will hold auditions on August 23 and 24 for its fall 2004 musical production of “School House Rock-Live!”
Auditions will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center, room 102. Actors, singers and backstage crew are needed for the production, said Opera Workshop Director Dr. Joseph Crabtree. The performances will be presented October 20 to 23.
“The LCC Opera Workshop is looking forward to presenting this pop culture phenomenon to the musical stage,” said Crabtree.
The production is based on an Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs, explained Crabtree.
“Today, ‘School House Rock-Live!’ is making a small-screen comeback and lighting up stages everywhere, instructing a whole new generation to ‘unpack their adjectives’ and ‘do the circulations,’” he added.
Children just discovering the TV series to “Generation X-ers” seeking a taste of nostalgia will delight in this sure-fire entertainment that is simply good–and educational- fun, Crabtree added.
