LCC videoconference ‘Sprinkles’ advice on leadership

Learning how to cope with difficult people and advice on becoming an effective leader are part of a student leadership videoconference at Laredo Community College on Tuesday, February 17.

LCC students are invited to attend a videoconference featuring Jonathan Sprinkles, a humorous speaker, author and entertainer who will show what traits make a quality leader.  He will also show how to obtain the power and passion of knowing your purpose in life.  His presentation, sponsored by LCC Student Activities and hosted by the LCC Art Club, starts at 6 p.m. in the de la Garza Building, room 101.  Admission is free of charge.

Sprinkles teaches students how to identify their identity and appreciate the synergy that comes from everyone’s differences.

Sprinkles was 15 years old when his father died of cancer.  He felt like he lost the closest friend that he ever had. He bought into the negative stereotypes and environmental pressures that lead to a low self-image and minimal expectations. To make matters worse, Sprinkles battled with the inherent challenges of being raised in a single-parent home.

However, he refused to settle for life's second-best. He graduated from the No. 4 marketing program in the country, the University of Texas at Austin. Today, he blends his powerful story, accompanied by the professional lessons learned during a successful career as a senior account manager with Dell Computer Corporation, to produce talks that compel people to stand strong and take pride in the power of their life's journey.

Part speaker, part entertainer, Sprinkles has devoted his life to pursuing his passion of "teaching beautiful people to act like it." His stories about his struggles with self-limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging habits have captured the hearts of audiences around the country. He encourages them to be authentic in their approach to life, being who they are, not who others want them to be.

Sprinkles has been recognized as a three-time honoree of the Top 10 Most Upstanding Men award by the African American Culture Committee, Dean's Dozen and the Barbara Jordan Leadership Award winner.

His charismatic and highly-energetic style has quickly established him as one of America's best young speakers. His books, Why Settle? Be the Best YOU That YOU Can Be! and Student Success Stories, get people excited about making positive decisions and living their lives with purpose and zeal.
