LCC
to offer Stage Craft class
Students and adults interested in learning the technical aspects of theatre production should consider enrolling in a new Laredo Community College course set to begin on Tuesday, February 3.
Interested persons should sign up for Stage Craft I (DRAM1330L70). The class, consisting of a lecture and lab, will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 3 through April 30, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the new Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center.
Zane Richter will lead the instruction. With over 20 years of experience in theatre production, Richter currently serves as the technical director and lighting designer for the LCC Fine Arts Center.
Richter explained that students will receive a basic understanding of the relationship shared between the physical theatre, audience and stage. They will also learn about sound for theatre, theatrical lighting, theatre vocabulary, basic scenery construction, theatrical rigging and much more.
“The Stage Craft class is intended to involve and introduce students to the process of mounting live theatrical productions,” said Richter. “Students will have an opportunity to help with the operation of the theater in the LCC Fine Arts Center during events occurring throughout the semester.”
Richter holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with a minor in studio art from the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico. Richter has been involved in live theatre for 20 years, when he began acting in theatre productions at age 8.
Register for this class through Tuesday, February 3, at the LCC Admissions/Registration Office, located in University Hall, room 125. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
