Opportunities to be a substitute teacher in Laredo are plenty. At Laredo Community College, a short-term, non-credit course in substitute teaching is available for persons seeking to enter this growing field.
Two sections of the Substitute Teacher course will be offered this week, including August 9 and 10 and August 11 and 12. Each course section will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost to enroll in each course is $32.
The course will offer a comprehensive view on what the substitute teacher contributes in the classroom.
Participants will know how to identify student needs, and learn about behavior modification, classroom management and school personnel relations. The course will also cover the development of skills relating to human growth, childhood and adolescence.
Registration is underway at the LCC Admissions/Registration office, located in University Hall, room 125. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact the LCC Community Education Department by calling 721-5374.
